GRADE 2 : QILIN

Qilins Learning Culture

Students in second grade are enriching their learning experiences by using technology.

Developing a stronger sense of responsibility, second graders are managing their time in class and finishing their work more independently. They are learning how to type in Mandarin and use digital tools to help them organize information. Second graders also make regular presentations each trimester.

Growing literacy in Mandarin, growing foundational math skills (beginning multiplication + algebra.

Assessment Data from Spring 2022

Formal assessments continue each year in both the fall and the spring at IFS, with STAR, STAMP and Level Learning for Reading providing teachers with valuable feedback.

Despite an intensive Mandarin language environment in our early childhood program and kindergarten, 75% of our 1st graders and 70% of our 2nd graders tested at grade level or higher in math and English.

Chinese Language Arts

In 2023, 100% of IFS 2nd graders met the Intermediate level according to national ACTFL (American Council on Teaching Foreign Languages) standards in speaking.

This means our 2nd grade graduates can engage in conversation on concrete topics and fully communicate during Mandarin class.

Because they began study early, and have already achieved a high level of proficiency for their age group, with continued study they are on track to reach the highest levels of language performance.

Math

100% of our students are at or above grade level in K, 1, 2.
